With the onset of each Fall, I looked forward to the permeating aromas of her heirloom canning recipes and herb and vinegar concoctions which had been passed down from generation to generation. Like a homegrown food manufacturer, she would calculate the family's needs for the long northern winters. Then, beginning early in the morning, she would carefully wash, select, cook and pickle until late in the day. When she was done, she would line up her jars and gaze in satisfaction at her culinary jewels. Only now do I truly appreciate the many times I was enlisted to help, and share her sense of pride and tradition.With its roots still in my grandmother's victory gardens, Dolce Nonna captures the bountiful flavors of my grandmother's herbs, vegetables and heirloom recipes. Just as she gladly shared with her neighbors, grandma would be as pleased as I am to share them with you.
